Remix Thursday #5: The Paul Simon Edition, starring Tangoterje, DJ Spun, Sebastian, Blaze Tee, Sneaky Sound System, Switch, Spank Rock...

That I found 2 great Paul Simon edits in one week, so i decided to go digging for some more. The rest are things I'd imaging Paul Simon might strongly dislike, but oh well...

Notes for the weekend: Todd Terje, Busy P, and Red Hook Ceviche

I'm gonna post some remixes up later, but I wanted to make a couple notes for the weekend.

First, Todd Terje @ 205 was a great sweaty time last night. His tracks were great last year at his 3 NYC appearances, but I think his DJ skills have gotten even better. Amazing track selection and blends, and an eponomous t-shirt, clearly the mark of a great selector. He also informed me that he's got 2 more appearances in NY this week:

-----Saturday: Todd Terje @ Tribeca Grand
-----Monday: Terje Opens Deep Space w/ Francois K @ Cielo (Disco Goes Full Circle?)

I also want to point out that Busy P is in town for 3 shows this coming week, so if you missed the Dafter-Party, or don't feel like getting squeezed at an Ed Banger showcase event, come see the man in front of the robots.

-----Saturday: Busy P + DJ T + Throne of Blood @ Studio B
-----Sunday : Busy P + Neal Aline @ APT
-----Tuesday: Busy P @ LOVE

Lastly, I was reading David Byrne's Blog about the situation facing the vendors at the Red Hook Ball fields. If you've never been, its an extravaganza of latin street foods, sold by vendors in tents surrounding a soccer field (with pretty good games) on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll find it by driving to the corner of Clinton St & Bay St [click for map], or take the F train to Smith/9th, or the 77 Bus till you see the fields. Some of the most delicious things i've ever put in my mouth are the Grilled Corn (get it with the works) from the first stand when you walk in, and the Ceviche a short ways down the line, served in little plastic cups for $6 (shrimp perfection). Thats the good news.

The bad news is like anything else in this city where New Yorkers are enjoying their lives, the man is trying to step in and shut it down. The word on the street, is that they're trying to kick out the families who have turned this into a vibrant weekend event for the past 10 years, and replace them with rent-paying food "vendors" (and if you've ever been to a street fair in this town, you get the idea what of that will be like, bad news if you ever want something besides italian sausage). To read more about this crisis--and as far as i'm concerned this is just that--go to the "Save Soccer Tacos" Blog. There are links to a bunch of ways that you can step in and write to the parks dept, and your other city representatives. If you have the time, please write a letter. This is one of those things that makes me proud to be a New Yorker.

The credit for this one is all on the infamous Kiyoshi. Also, the secret society of HML, you know who you are. I've been hesitant to post so much about Daft Punk in the last few weeks, but they're just so fucking awesome, i can't help but be a fanboy.

Los Amigos Invisibles, Free Show Thurs 8/24, Free Music Now

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
After a bout of laziness, i'm posting again. Inspiration today comes from the free Los Amigos Invisibles show tomorrow at El Museo Del Barrio on Museum Mile. Some dummy scheduled their last free NY show on the same day as the robots, but as of now, i see no earth-changing conflicts for tomorrow (especially since its an early-evening after-work affair [6:30-9:30]).

If you don't know them, Los Amigos play live "Latin Disco House". which as far as i'm concerned is a pretty under-served market. You dont need to use much imagination to get that they're a good ol' time. But if my sparse description doesn't get it done for you, then perhaps these samples will. Hope to see you there. Someone let me know if there are any other good parties going on Thursday evening, maybe it'll turn into a marathon.

Remix Thursday #3: Joe Claussel Jams, Ne-Yo, DFA, Todd Terje, Sunshine Anderson, Blaze, 4 hero, MAW.....

Back to on time this week! I've been feeling very deep house this week, so thats where we're going with it this week. I've got a bunch of classics up here, and a few tracks that aren't remixes, but fit nicely. A lot of these I've found listening to Joe Claussell. If you don't know him, he's one of the three "Body & Soul" DJs, along with Danny Krivit and Francois K. Though he's on a summer "vacation" right now, he has an amazing Sunday evening biweekly residency at LOVE, that you should definitely check out if you like these tracks. He's a strong contender for NY's best House DJ, and the party is so friendly and mixed, you will barely believe you're in NYC.

Ne-Yo - "So Sick (DFA Remix)" (Again, not BK DFA, Detroit DFA) [Zshare Link]

Ne-Yo / If anyone knows a site for the Detroit DFA, please EMAIL ME

Daft Punk Live in Brooklyn @ Keyspan Park 8/9/07 Audience Recording

Respect to whoever it was that sat through the show with mics on their head to bring us this. Respect to Obscene for posting them up (and check it if you want this in AAC or FLAC). Respect to the guy who says that he's crying midway through the set. Respect to the robots.

NOTE: This is apparently originally from HUMAN ROBOTS IN BROOKLKYN which I believe is the only Keyspan-Park-Show-Domain on the interweb.

DJ Puipui (Crydaluv)

Respect to Kiyoshi for finding this guy. When Crydamoure came into my life a few years ago, I searched high and low for other producers making such tight french loop house. Found a few bad knockoffs, but this might be the real deal. I don't know too much about this guy, but i hope to be hearing more from him soon.

Daft Punk Keyspan Park (and afterparty) Wrapup

So....

Here's how it went. After pregame at my apt. about 15 of us took the trek on the F train to coney, 6 of us all dressed up in satin. Keyspan park was really great, the dancefloor they put down to protect the field was really soft and squishy and great for shakin'. I was looking forward to seeing the Pyramid show for the 3rd time, and finally just being able to have fun and dance and enjoy myself. Nope. Same shock and awe as both times before, hand over mouth, on head, absolute amazement. I had somehow managed to avoid seeing/hearing the encore until last night, and i must say, holy fuck!

More then spent, we took the long train back to my house, where after a quick shower and change, we headed out to the after party @ Studio B. Place was packed with a hefty line, but it seemed like if you had pre-sale tickets, there was no waiting, and we were in really quickly. Place was H.O.T.T. and doubly so if you're wearing a quilt-lined satin jacket. We're standing towards the side, when we see towards the back that Thomas and Guy-Manuel are in the back of the dj booth, talking with Sebastian, Kavinski, Sebastian Tellier and a bunch of other people who i probably should know. After maybe 10 minutes of chatting (and Guy-Manuel hiding), they quietly start walking towards the exit. I figured they would be absolutely mobbed, but i needed to go try and shake a hand or two, thank them for....everything. But to my surprise, even in blogged-out brooklyn, i dont think anyone knew who they were! I creep up to Thomas with a giant frog in my throat, and shake his hand and offer my thanks. Then i turn around and show him my Jacket. I think he was a little thrown off at first, but then after I hand him the one we made for him, he seems truly touched and flattered and sincerely thanks me. I'm speechless, and forget to even try to look for Guy-Man, and so when Thomas walked out the door with wifey, it took a nudge from my boy Noah to go outside and find his ass!

We go outside, and I see them standing in a small circle of friends outside their black stretch limo. Still terrified, I walk up to Guy-Manuel, give him his respect, and offer him a jacket as well, to which he also quietly but sincerely offers his thanks. At this point i'm just mumbling and so fucking freaked out that I cant even believe whats goin on here. I know for some of you this might be old hat, but I'm meeting the fuckin' superheroes! Anyways, i walk away dumbfounded, when i'm reminded that i went out and bought paint pens specifically for the off chance this encounter might happen. Head bowed in fear, I walk up to Thomas again (who is the nicest guy in the world, by the way), and ask him if he would sign my jacket. He says "of course", and follows by asking Guy-Manuel to sign for me (as he can see how super-intimidated of Guy I am ). They both sign for Noah and Dane and d's boy Sam as well. While Thomas is signing, he tells me how great he thinks the jackets are, and that he tried to get them made for the crew in '97, but he couldnt get them to come out as well as these! Then he says that they were their best memory of the tour! I'm melted.

After about 10 minutes of staring off into space dazed, I look up to see their limo pull away, and we go back into Studio B. I need a drink BAD, so i go up to the bar, and stand there forever waiting for some greasy motherfucker next to me taking forever to order 4 drinks. Armand Van Helden. Un-freakin believable. Shake his hand, and blabber some shit that I'm way embarrased about, and then make my way towards the front of the dj booth to give the last jacket to Busy Pedro. I force my way up onto the ledge, and push the jacket in his face, which he takes and looks down and mouths "for me?". He then holds it up for the crowd who goes nuts. Ethan is smiley.

I was done, as were my companions, and we made our way back down to park slope to call it one helluva night.

For some great pics of the night, check out The Cobra Snake, and see Noah's back, Ethan and Dane lurking in the shadows, and Rosario Dawson taking polaroids in the back of the daft limo?

Also, since music is over now, i'm turning this into a food blog. Here's my mom's recipe for Plum Cake (Try it, its easy and really delicious):

1/4 pound (1 stick) Butter, softened
1 C sugar
mix them together in a bowl
to this add:

2 eggs
1 C flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1 t vanilla extract
Mix all this together thoroughly
Pour into greased dish (9" pie pan works nicely)
Top with sliced plums
Sprinkle top with cinnamon
Bake @ 350 deg. F for approx 1 hour, until top is golden brown.

No Words...

Day of Reckoning

Sorry i've not been great about updating the blog this week, but certain business needed to be taken care of.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

First off: B-52s host their own Unoficcial Daft Punk Pre-Party which adds to the funnest day of the year. And poor Los Amigos Invisibles, i do love them so, but once again they have managed to schedule terribly.

Just noticed that Objectivity Records (Dennis Ferrer, The Martinez Brothers) are throwing a party at Pacha tomorrow. Pacha on friday night, meh, but should be cool nonetheless if you're looking for something to do with your night. On the other hand there's a Jellybean Benitez "house party" on friday, and then he goes to Ft. Green Park on Sunday to close out(?) their short-lived summer house series.

Later today, i will upload some music for you to listen to on your drive to Coney Island. If you run into me, there, I fully expect you to buy me a fried clam sandwich. Also ran into this guy last night.

See you in a few hours. NY, you'e never gonna be the same again.

Busy P's Daft Tour Diary

From 'The Fader': "Here I am again, back on the US roads with some freaky frenchie. I left my Ed Banger squad at home and now travelling the US with DAFT PUNK. The band rocked L.A, SF and Seattle last week. I've joined the tour yesterday in DENVER, Colorado. DAFT PUNK at RED ROCKS, or our way to live the "Close encounters of the third kind" for real! Next stop is Lollapalooza in Chicago. Maybe I'll make my dream come true, meet Eddie Vedder. Before that, I have a small escapade in L.A tonight with some of the Ed Banger's artists for another "trendy car brand super private top secret party"... Not a secret anymore, exclusively here on THEFADER.COM! It's at Viper Room! come, I'll open the back door.

To my friends in Colorado, send me pics.

Also, to whet your appetite, if you haven't seen the pyramid in person yet, i give you this thought, from Backbeat Online:

Random Detail: Opening act The Rapture's Matt Saber concluded their set by saying of Daft Punk, "This is going to be the best show you've ever seen. Better than sex. Better than your birthday. Better than your wedding." After the show I overheard at least a dozen fans echoing that sentiment.
