Call and Response

I've received a bunch of great stuff from readers this week, including some requests from my little sidebar grovel-box, and I'm EXTREMELY excited to share with the rest of you.

Hope you enjoy!

First up is from my new pal Bruno, of the world-travelin' D.I.S.C.O. Texas crew: XINOBI/MOULINEX/D.I.S.C.O. TEXAS

Kris Menace Remixes: Air & Roísin Murphy

I'm back, and I've brought with me some epic new-ish remixes from Kris Menace. The first is a remix of Overpowered, one of my favorite records of 2007, and the title track on her follow up to her amazing 2005 release, the Matthew Herbert-produced "Ruby Blue".

The 2nd track is a remix of "Mer du Japon" from Air's "Pocket Symphony", which came to my consciousness through the Alan Braxe Podcast from the UK's "Together" Party. Download it if you get the chance, its massive, and subscribe while you're at it, they have had a lot of great artists do mixes for them, including my favorite Norwegian, Todd Terje.

Thanksgiving Break

Ii may take a couple days off from Blogging for the Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. I'm hosting people at my apartment for the first time, and I'm totally overwhelmed--my place is a total mess after spending the better part of the last month working on the road. I reserve the right to change my mind if y'all keep sending me great tracks (and they have been terrific, I'm sorry to those of you who i haven't individually thanked, I will get to catching up with emails over the weekend. In the meantime, here are two tracks that on this holiday, we can all be thankful for. First up, a new edit by my friend, Mercurius FM:

Rondenion, Part 2

Yay for instant feedback!  Here are a couple more Rondenion tracks, thanks again to Rich Dreams. These are from the [apparently] killer "Tokyo Story EP" from Still Music

Necessary One For Me [REMOVED AT LABEL'S REQUEST]

Aging New Style [REMOVED AT LABEL'S REQUEST]

Roulé Closeout

None of these tracks are really Roulé releases besides the Bob Sinclar Remix, but I figured they should be grouped together for one reason or another. They're all essentials for any collection of house music from this era.

First up is "Bob Sinclar's" Gym Tonic. It is my belief and understanding that this White Label track was stolen from Thomas Bangalter, nicely told in the story that follows, which is reprinted from the account by LeDJFaB on the discogs page:

Entirely produced by Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk), "Gym Tonic" bacame, over the years, a kind of mythical record. According to the rumours, Bangalter didn't want the track to be released commercially. But it gained such a success as a promo that Sinclar decided to put it on his first album "Paradise", crediting himself as the main author and Bangalter as the remixer. This event leaded to several legal problems: Jane Fonda took legal actions for the uncredited use of her voice, and it finally cost around 75 000$ to clear the sample. Many opportunist, commercial dance acts stealed the main idea of the record: the most popular one, Spacedust, released "Gym And Tonic" (which even reproduce Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" melody). Finally, Bangalter decided to "ban" Sinclar's remix of "Music Sounds Better With You" by ordering new versions of the song to Dimitri From Paris and DJ Sneak. It is unlikely that these two DJ's will ever work together again. Choose your camp.

Use your ears, i think they'll validate the story.

Up next is a track that you all know, along with a couple of amazing versions that you might not. This is another one that is/was rumored to have originated in the Thomas Bangalter/Together circle, but it seems that consensus is that Bangalter/Falcon simply got access to Eric Prydz's master tracks early on, and made their own White Label Mix, which is available below, as well as the "Played Live" version, which i have credited as from a show by Cassius & DJ Falcon at the Original Pacha Club in Ibiza on 8/13/03. If anyones got better information, do share.

Finally, a few more mixes of the great Roulé Hits, just to make sure you can work some French Touch into the mix set for your Wedding, Gym, Club, Restaurant/Bar, and/or Bar Mitzvah.

Scratché 701

This is the one and only release on Roulé's sub-label, Scratché. Don't quite know why these tracks deserved their own label (or why there were no other Scratché 12"s), but if any of you have some insight, i'd love to hear it.

Roulé Together 2

Well folks, here's the last of the proper "Roulé" 12" Releases, although I have a few extra special goodies for yas tomorrow. Gimme a couple days and I'm gonna start some new collections, and perhaps shake things up a bit with the site, do some new formatting, etc. I also want to formally thank Thomas Bangalter (and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, for that matter) for not shutting these down. I know that Busy P is all over sites sharing free Daft-related material, and to have had these up for so long, I'm taking as a sign that they realize how important it is for everyone to have access to Roulé and Crydamoure, and I'm happy to have been able to bring them to you. I hope that they can be up for a very very very long time.

Roulé Together 1

The aura of this track has definitely grown since the Alive '07 Tour, and its incredible encore came into existence, although i've loved this one from the moment i've heard it. Its the epitome of French Touch; catchy loop puts you in a trance, only to get slapped in the face by that awesome synth line.

I just want to mention that i have a couple of requests and questions for you in this post, but to avoid sullying the amazing formatting i've done, I'm putting it below the cover art.

In my circles, a little snippet of a track floated around that was rumored to be a 3rd Together cut. Do any of you know if this is the case, and if so, do you have the full track? If not, what is this?

Together 3??? [RIGHT-CLICK TO DOWNLOAD]

Edit: Commentary from a reader, "Justin" in the Netherlands:
The snippet floating around as Together03 has been released as "Patrick Alavi - Party With Music". I was never sure if it was Patrick Alavi's track from the beginning used to spread the fake misnamed snippet, or that it started out as a Together track but got nicked by Alavi. However given the timing and some comments by Falcon, I tend to believe the track always was by Patrick Alavi from the start, so that pretty much solves the mystery.

Here are is the Patrick Alavi track, as well as another using the same sample, by Dynamic Rockers. (Both tracks courtesy of Justin (Thanks, J!).

In addition, does anyone have THIS white label? If so, what are the mixes like?

Roulé 309

I want to say thanks to everyone who's written, explained, commented, sent tracks to me, etc., over the last 24 hours. However, i've been traveling all day and i couldn't be tired-er, so i'll get into it all on the blog tomorrow. But at the very least, a special thanks to those of you who sent Roulé 309 to me while I was away from home. And so here it is for the rest of yas, Bangalter's "Outrage" EP.

Roulé 308

Lets talk about this guy for a second. You will not find a cooler producer in the world then the reclusive DJ Falcon. The guy has released just four other sides during the 8 years since this 12" was released, each of which contain some of the most perfect, wonderous, blissfull, anthemic house tracks off all time.

HOWEVER...as pointed out in this interview, sent in by Brendan (a friend of the blog), Falcon and his helmeted production partner will be dropping some new goodness on us in the near future. I expect goosebumps.

Also, having recently read his Discogs page, I found out that he's Alan "Braxe" Quéme's cousin, which makes that the coolest family i can think of. What a privilege it was to see them play together last month, its still pretty hard to believe.

Note: On Honeymoon (sweet, sweet Honeymoon), there is a wierd break that sounds like Blackberry interference, and then the track drops again in perfect sync, on the downbeat. I've had conflict in my head about whether this was intentional or an accident. It seems unlikely to have been accidental (cause why would it make it onto the wax if it was), and were there even Blackberries in 1999? But if its sopposed to be there, why? If anyone has any insight, please let me know.

EDIT:  From Reader "Justin"
That interferance sound is done on intention... or at least partly.  The story goes Thomas walked in with some radio-like device while Dj Falcon was working and this interferance made it into the recording. Falcon wanted to remove it, but Thomas liked it and insisted it stayed in the song... and well, the rest is history.  I'm not sure were I recalled this from. It might have been from an old Falcon interview. In any case it comes from the good old daft crew forum [sic] so I'm pretty sure this is how it happened.

Without further ado...

At this point, it becomes clear that Roulé is fucking invincible. A classic lo-fi gem from the reclusive voice behind "Too Long" and "One More Time". Jersey Represent!

From The Liner Notes:
"When my underground sound became overground around 1995, all the trappings and pressures of dealing with worldwide attention threatened to stall the innovation & excitement of (my) club music, instead of giving the $ more attention than the music I decided to 'HOLD ON' to the spirit of discovery..."

Rondenion

Another artist introduced to my by Rich, is Rondenion, a house/techno artist from Tokyo, who i'd swear grew up on Theo Parrish and Roy Davis edits in Detroit if i didn't know better. Fortunately he fits right in on his label, Chicago-Based Still Music, who hold down the 3rd Thursdays slot at APT (website down)

Here are two tracks from his "Blue Rhodes Dances EP"

Shake Dance [LINK REMOVED AT LABEL'S REQUEST]

Follow this link to a slick 30 minute mix by Mr. Rondenion: [Rondenion @ Here Comes Treble]

I'd love to get some more Rondenion on here, but for now i just have what's available on iTunes, so if you've got some, email em to me.

As a side note, i just was listening to a great mix on Tony Humphries' Myspace, if you're into Deep/Soul/Gospel/Garage House (fuck, it sounds like tony humphries). I say this every time he's around, but its fucking criminal that NY househeads seem to have forgotten about him.
