Kiyoshi Posts ALL Daft Punk Live Sets

My friend Kiyoshi has taken on a major archiving effort and put all the known Daft Punk live recordings on his blog, putting them together for download for the first time. For a long time now, Kiyoshi has been doing great things with his blog and various other projects (including the now dormant but once great Crydamoure Myspace) so if his blog isn't a part of your daily rotation, pay him a visit and check him out.

Daft Punk was on the Grammys!?!?!?

In case you missed it, and i can't imagine why you wouldn't have, Daft Punk was on the Grammys 5 minutes ago. Kanye West came onstage to perform "Stronger" in a light-up black "Sgt. Pepper" Jacket (a la Alive 2007 Encore), with the backdrop of a pyramid that looked like the "Alive 2007" CD cover. Midway through, the middle of the Pyramid dropped out, and our favorite Robots appeared outlined in their red light-piping jackets. The cameras showed the inside of the pyramid, with the duo playing around on 4 "Lemur" Controllers. To my knowledge, this is the first footage of Daft Punk actually playing their controllers in the Pyramid, and I just learned that this was the first live TV broadcast in DPs history. Way Cool. I had just been lamenting the loss of Daft Punk for the forseeable future, but maybe they won't be going too far after all.

Daft Punk @ Vegoose, Las Vegas, MP3 Download & More.

First up for y'alls is a MP3 repost (120 MB) of the .flac download of the Daft Punk set from Vegoose on Saturday, by way of eTree, which from a quick listen sounds VERY VERY VERY good.
EDIT: The direct link to the .Flac files, via Torrent, is here.  But frankly, this sounds really realy really really good.  As a former taper, i'm smitten.

Next, look at these sexy fuckers helping the helmet gals cinch the title.

Finally, pretty sure that this ain't daft punk's handiwork, but its impressively obsessive, completing the theme of this post. Full respect to our "crazy friend from Texas", Kiyoshi. Where the fuck do you find this shit k//?

Daft Punk 10/27 Las Vegas, Nevada "Vegoose" Review and Pictures

I'm gonna get into more specifics when i wake up tomorrow, and can more fully recap this amazing day, but for now i'll just give a play-by-play with the pictures.

After catching the 2nd half of M.I.A.'s set (meh), we met up with Danny and Newstie during Iggy Pop & The Stooges. Different vibe then i was going for, but still pretty fun. How old is that pretty topless lead-singer? Boy can she sing.

A major theme of the evening was Sam trying his best to ignore the fact that we weren't actually in Daft Punk. This involved walking around backstage, meeting the Tour manager for Cypress Hill "Dougie", and meeting all the nice older ladies that were running security. It also somehow led us into this cross-shaped fenced-in area in the middle of Daft's audience area. There we met some of the people who were taping the show (cool), as well as our new friends from Brooklyn, who apparently will be on my flight home tomorrow.

We ended up in a little "VIP" section just to the left of the soundboard, which provided us with views of the show that were two beautiful to even try and photgraph (i'll leave it to the pros who were around and doing their thing). Here we also met some great people, including the folks from Boise (Glasses/Sequins/Star-Facepaint). We also met these two girls who had apparently spent the last 10 days soldering together their own LED Daft Punk Helmets. Only Daft Punk can bring these kinds of people together.

Live Blog: Daft Punk @ Vegoose, Las Vegas, NV

In the most self-indulgent of gestures, i'm gonna "Live-Blog" my trip to Vegas. This is mostly because my flight is delayed @ JFK and I'm trying to do things other then drink while I wait. I'm travelling with my friend Sam, both of us rolling in tight black satin. We've been getting stares.

10/26 9:18 PM.: Just found out that our flight is delayed for 2 hours, and now we're ragin' at "New York Sports Grill", Jetblue's hottest club. I just ran into some friends from Speedway Films, whos flight back to Nashville was delayed too, so we shot the shit and watched some college football. Man this trip is off to a roaring start.

10/26 11:40 PM EST: Get me off this fucking plane!!! Its cool, only another 5 hours to go!!! We were waiting around JFK terminal 6, and saw some guy packing away a phat Ableton Live controller, so I asked him about it, and he said that he is the soundguy for DJ Jonathan Peters (who was laying on a bench ichatting with someone and wearing brown coveralls). His website says that he's the #1 dj in America. Not this weekend.

10/27 3:54 AM PST: Just got to the hotel. Tahiti Village has no wi-fi, so i'll be updating this at the times when i can connect. Pictures to follow.

10/27 5:55PM: Denny's was probably not the best pregame decision. Still, we're on our way out the door, looking fly...

10/28 4:45AM: Well that was amazing. So good it needs its own post. So check that out here.

Daft Punk at Vegoose

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It looks like I've put things together to come to Vegoose next weekend to see Daft Punk (four times in 16 months, im proud to say). However, I'm not much of a gambler, and I think I'm gonna skip out on the Sunday shows at the festival (not much thats particularly interesting to me), so i'm wondering what to do with myself? Do any of you know of anything fun going on? Any word of afterparties in Vegas saturday night? What does one do on a Sunday in Vegas besides eat and spend money? and then Ethan remembers that Sopranos episode from the last season....hmm.

Anyways, if anyone has suggestions, or has a great houseparty that they wanna bring a couple fun strangers to, give me a holler.

Annie Mac interviews Daft Punk on Radio One

In an effort to talk about Daft Punk as much as possible, i'm now posting an interview that Radio One DJ Annie Mac did with Thomas Bangalter, which aired this past week, but apparently was recorded earlier in the summer. Thanks for the lead Dan.

Daft Punk Unmasked

The credit for this one is all on the infamous Kiyoshi. Also, the secret society of HML, you know who you are. I've been hesitant to post so much about Daft Punk in the last few weeks, but they're just so fucking awesome, i can't help but be a fanboy.

Daft Punk Keyspan Park (and afterparty) Wrapup

So....

Here's how it went. After pregame at my apt. about 15 of us took the trek on the F train to coney, 6 of us all dressed up in satin. Keyspan park was really great, the dancefloor they put down to protect the field was really soft and squishy and great for shakin'. I was looking forward to seeing the Pyramid show for the 3rd time, and finally just being able to have fun and dance and enjoy myself. Nope. Same shock and awe as both times before, hand over mouth, on head, absolute amazement. I had somehow managed to avoid seeing/hearing the encore until last night, and i must say, holy fuck!

More then spent, we took the long train back to my house, where after a quick shower and change, we headed out to the after party @ Studio B. Place was packed with a hefty line, but it seemed like if you had pre-sale tickets, there was no waiting, and we were in really quickly. Place was H.O.T.T. and doubly so if you're wearing a quilt-lined satin jacket. We're standing towards the side, when we see towards the back that Thomas and Guy-Manuel are in the back of the dj booth, talking with Sebastian, Kavinski, Sebastian Tellier and a bunch of other people who i probably should know. After maybe 10 minutes of chatting (and Guy-Manuel hiding), they quietly start walking towards the exit. I figured they would be absolutely mobbed, but i needed to go try and shake a hand or two, thank them for....everything. But to my surprise, even in blogged-out brooklyn, i dont think anyone knew who they were! I creep up to Thomas with a giant frog in my throat, and shake his hand and offer my thanks. Then i turn around and show him my Jacket. I think he was a little thrown off at first, but then after I hand him the one we made for him, he seems truly touched and flattered and sincerely thanks me. I'm speechless, and forget to even try to look for Guy-Man, and so when Thomas walked out the door with wifey, it took a nudge from my boy Noah to go outside and find his ass!

We go outside, and I see them standing in a small circle of friends outside their black stretch limo. Still terrified, I walk up to Guy-Manuel, give him his respect, and offer him a jacket as well, to which he also quietly but sincerely offers his thanks. At this point i'm just mumbling and so fucking freaked out that I cant even believe whats goin on here. I know for some of you this might be old hat, but I'm meeting the fuckin' superheroes! Anyways, i walk away dumbfounded, when i'm reminded that i went out and bought paint pens specifically for the off chance this encounter might happen. Head bowed in fear, I walk up to Thomas again (who is the nicest guy in the world, by the way), and ask him if he would sign my jacket. He says "of course", and follows by asking Guy-Manuel to sign for me (as he can see how super-intimidated of Guy I am ). They both sign for Noah and Dane and d's boy Sam as well. While Thomas is signing, he tells me how great he thinks the jackets are, and that he tried to get them made for the crew in '97, but he couldnt get them to come out as well as these! Then he says that they were their best memory of the tour! I'm melted.

After about 10 minutes of staring off into space dazed, I look up to see their limo pull away, and we go back into Studio B. I need a drink BAD, so i go up to the bar, and stand there forever waiting for some greasy motherfucker next to me taking forever to order 4 drinks. Armand Van Helden. Un-freakin believable. Shake his hand, and blabber some shit that I'm way embarrased about, and then make my way towards the front of the dj booth to give the last jacket to Busy Pedro. I force my way up onto the ledge, and push the jacket in his face, which he takes and looks down and mouths "for me?". He then holds it up for the crowd who goes nuts. Ethan is smiley.

I was done, as were my companions, and we made our way back down to park slope to call it one helluva night.

For some great pics of the night, check out The Cobra Snake, and see Noah's back, Ethan and Dane lurking in the shadows, and Rosario Dawson taking polaroids in the back of the daft limo?

Also, since music is over now, i'm turning this into a food blog. Here's my mom's recipe for Plum Cake (Try it, its easy and really delicious):

1/4 pound (1 stick) Butter, softened
1 C sugar
mix them together in a bowl
to this add:

2 eggs
1 C flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1 t vanilla extract
Mix all this together thoroughly
Pour into greased dish (9" pie pan works nicely)
Top with sliced plums
Sprinkle top with cinnamon
Bake @ 350 deg. F for approx 1 hour, until top is golden brown.

No Words...

Busy P's Daft Punk Tour Blog

Busy P's Daft Tour Diary

From 'The Fader': "Here I am again, back on the US roads with some freaky frenchie. I left my Ed Banger squad at home and now travelling the US with DAFT PUNK. The band rocked L.A, SF and Seattle last week. I've joined the tour yesterday in DENVER, Colorado. DAFT PUNK at RED ROCKS, or our way to live the "Close encounters of the third kind" for real! Next stop is Lollapalooza in Chicago. Maybe I'll make my dream come true, meet Eddie Vedder. Before that, I have a small escapade in L.A tonight with some of the Ed Banger's artists for another "trendy car brand super private top secret party"... Not a secret anymore, exclusively here on THEFADER.COM! It's at Viper Room! come, I'll open the back door.

To my friends in Colorado, send me pics.

Also, to whet your appetite, if you haven't seen the pyramid in person yet, i give you this thought, from Backbeat Online:

Random Detail: Opening act The Rapture's Matt Saber concluded their set by saying of Daft Punk, "This is going to be the best show you've ever seen. Better than sex. Better than your birthday. Better than your wedding." After the show I overheard at least a dozen fans echoing that sentiment.

Announced: Daft Punk Afterparty

Things are starting to happen. Keyspan Park is sold out, the jackets are being stitched together, and now the "Official" afterparty. I don't know what "official" means, except last time I heard of a Daft Punk afterparty (Miami, last year), we skipped, and missed out on the Robots DJing. I, for one, have the fingers on my leather gloves crossed, and will not be missing this one--unless the rumor mill continues to spin. Stay tuned.
